Tasting Notes for Galway Pipe Australian Tawny

Color is ruby with gold highlights, very deep; the redness of a ruby port without the blue. The nose shows aromatic pipe tobacco (cherry tobacco?), dried fruit (especially prunes and dried figs) and a maybe a hint of straw. Palate is full of aromatic tobacco, dried cherries, cocoa powder, and a bit of smoke. Finish shows eucalyptus, herbs, and boysenberry pancake syrup. Thick, syrupy consistency. A very Australian tawny, and a great house port. [April 2000]
