Tasting notes for Macallan 18 year old 1979

Distillery bottling, 43% a.b.v.

Nose is sweet, reminiscent of dark corn syrup and birch beer; thick, as if you could spread it on a piece of toast, and not as sherried as the 12 y.o.  Palate is surprisingly light, becoming a bit aggressive.  Sherried at first, then shows tree bark and corn syrup.  Finish is sticky, long, and arborial, reminiscent of tree sap.  A splash of water removes harshness, turning it into quite an enjoyable dram.
