My recycled Tweets for 2009-08-26
- Writing an alternate-history sci-fi lexicon of a supposed den of hallucinogen dealers, just so I could name it "Ergot Argot": overkill? #
- My ex-wife bought my son a cell phone. That's reasonable. I mean, he'll be six later this year. #
- RT @thinkgeek geeky license plates. Most awesome? http://cli.gs/UmXgPW Also great? http://cli.gs/MaB3Bt #

Those are some good plates, but they’ll never top the classic.

That’s the classic because it was not a vanity plate. But if we include vanity plates, may I offer:
1) “GOT MILF?” from The Smoking Gun,
2) “2KUAYL”, which a friend saw, and
3) “FK GOOGL”, which I saw, complete with a “Do you Yahoo!?” plate frame. I reported this to the DMV. (What’s this about my having no sense of humor? Is that supposed to be a joke, asshole?)
Also — I love that Snopes link you provided, which I’ve shared with others in the past, largely because I know Barbara (I’ve had lunch with her and we argued over who would pay the check) and she, while brilliant in a Renn-faire/Mensa kind of way, comes across as fairly buttoned-down, making the three most amusing passages I’ve found on Snopes be:
1) Regarding this plate, “turn the innocuous combination A55 RGY into something that can be read as the risqué phrase ‘ASS ORGY’”
2) Regarding the “bought a dog” myth, “The real reasons for the inexperienced to be cautious about anal sex are less disgusting but more compelling: it can hurt and can cause damage to the rectum” and,
3) Regarding the “myth” about Sylvester Stallone’s porn film, confirming it and noting “Far from being a stallion, Sly is actually a man of quite ordinary, even modest, endowment” which says that Barbara not only tracked down the film but watched it and reviewed it.
BTW, when I mentioned one time to my father that I’d had lunch with Barbara, he looked legitimately shocked and noted, amused, that it never occurred to him that there was an actual person behind Snopes — it was just kinda “authority” or something. I didn’t say “Yes, the same thing is true for Lutheranism”, but I understand his reaction: it was akin to my disillusionment with Wikipedia the first time I completely rewrote an article because I thought it was wrong, and was thanked profusely for my effort, and when I found that some fool had cited mcgees.org as an authority on something. I thought, “Wow. If I count as an authority for an encyclopedia, what the hell are their standards?”
