Yeah, good call. You replaced a fourteen-syllable phrase with ... um ... a fourteen-syllable phrase (?).

God, I miss that character so much.

My television best friend comes from Rome. My roleplaying group has come to recognize my saying "I don't know what to do. Any advice, Titus Pullo?" as shorthand for "prepare yourself for an act of unspeakable violence".

I just noticed that the list was written by John Scalzi, a sci-fi writer that I've never read, but whose work is considered fairly top-notch. My current roommate (Dan) just finished Old Man's War, and he thinks highly of it. It did lead to the following funny conversation, though.

Dan: I'm really enjoying this book. It reminds me a lot of Heinlein, when Heinlein is good.

Me: [joking] Really? Does it feature an old dude getting it on with a series of increasingly improbable younger women?

Dan: [quiet for a moment] Kinda.

drunken, emotionally imbalanced angel armed with intricate knowledge of Bob Dylan songs

God, I miss that character so much. It's like having a dear friend (a dear friend who hated me) die.

Points well taken, but:

1.) Whether or not nerds will admit it, Star Wars is a kids' movie. Whatever else its flaws might be, design isn't all that big of one, unless you're also that guy who complains about the faulty robotics in WALL-E (another kids' movie that I, a grown man, have been known to enjoy).

2.) George Lucas, hack though he may be, would like to point out that you're a fan of a show where our robotic enemies came up with a brilliant plan to conquer humanity by making super-hot robot women have sex with craggy old men, but their plan was thwarted when God sent humanity a drunken, emotionally imbalanced angel armed with intricate knowledge of Bob Dylan songs. Don't you lecture him about design flaws, fanboy.

3.) Yeah, LotR is shit.
